Self Reflection

Today I've realized that my heart and passions lie in helping others. That was driven home for me last night while serving burritos to men and women living in run-down motels, but it is a realization I've been coming to over the past wee and probably longer as I contemplate next steps.

I can no longer see myself working for a random corporation in a trivial position. Instead I'm looking to maximize my talent and effectiveness by going into the non-profit realm. There are so many great causes and organizations right here in Denver, that I'm excited to see where I'm lead to.

Today is a great day! I hope and pray the everyone can harness their passions because I know that a mixture of passion, innovation, and drive is a great combination!

All the best,
Adam

But what if the "same" is effective

As I continued my job search, determined to find a position that is a good fit, I had the opportunity to speak with a career coach today.

I sat in a room with 6 others and was taught how to put together the most effective resume to get it read. And I thought to myself, "Self, if you are going to have a resume that looks just like 6 other people, how many more are out there getting the same coaching?" I really want to differentiate myself, and I think being seen or heard from is way more important than being read about (as I type this in a blog to be read by others).

What I mean is that, and the career coach confirmed this, most companies don't hire someone they find out on a job board randomly, and most people report that they find their next job through their network.

So although I will apply some of the advice for my resume, the biggest take away for me today is that I really shouldn't waste my time putting my information out there on a random job board. Instead I will take those precious few moments to reach out to a professional contact I haven't talked to in a while or expand my groups on LinkedIn.

All the while I am contemplating moving out of the Account Management career tract and into the not-for-profit realm where my heart really lies.

All the best,
Adam

Are you an Innovatologist

Hello and Welcome to my new blog about innovation.

When I was recently notified about being laid off I decided I needed an outlet to help explore the future and figure out what I'm really all about.

Then it came to me. No matter the task, responsibility, or industry I have a core belief that doing the same thing you've always done will get you the same results you've always gotten.

I've not been a one trick pony when it has come to my career. I've worn many hats in a variety of areas from not-for-profit marketing to detailed knowledge of and responsibility for compliance around pharmaceutical samples.

Regardless of what I've done, the company or industry, I've always taken a fresh approach to the task at hand by figuring out new and fresh ways to approach the various problems.

I hope you'll continue to join me on this journey of innovation and that you yourself will become an innovatologist, defined as one who never settles for the same thing you've always gotten!

All the best,

Adam
